2017 marks twenty years since Matthew Bourne’s Cinderella first premiered in the West End, as well as marking News Adventure’s 16th consecutive Christmas season at Sadler’s Wells. This festive season, Cinderella returns in a UK tour, opening at Sadler’s Wells on Saturday 9th December and playing for a seven-week tour concluding on Saturday 27th January. These performances conclude a year-long celebration of work commemorating thirty years of New Adventures.

Matthew Bourne’s interpretation of the classic fairy tale places Cinderella in the London of World War Two, telling a truly thrilling and evocative war-time romance. A chance meeting between Cinderella and her dashing RAF pilot results in a magical night where the two fall in love, before being parted by the horrors of the Blitz.

The production, which won an Olivier Award for Lez Brotherson’s gorgeous costume and set designs, will have lighting designed by Olivier-Award winning Neil Austin and Surround Sound designed by Paul Groothuis. The performance will also feature a specially commissioned recording played by a sixty-piece orchestra. Bourne’s vivid story is as heart-stopping and touching as ever, and will take the audience not only into the sights and sounds of war-torn London, but into the heart of Prokofiev’s fantastic score.
